Lepak Tunes @ Jurong Lake Gardens
Presented by Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra
In conjunction with Lights by the Lake 2025 | Part of ArtsEverywhere@CDC
A Night of Music, Light, and Community
On 11 October 2025, the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra (ACSO) brought warmth, rhythm, and connection to the scenic Jurong Lake Gardens with Lepak Tunes, a vibrant multicultural music showcase presented as part of ArtsEverywhere@CDC, in conjunction with Lights by the Lake.
Against the shimmering glow of lantern installations and the gentle night breeze, residents and visitors gathered to enjoy an evening of familiar tunes, right in the heart of the neighbourhood.
About ArtsEverywhere@CDC
An initiative by the Community Development Councils (CDCs) and the National Arts Council (NAC), ArtsEverywhere@CDC brings monthly arts experiences to where people live, work, and play. It aims to foster community bonding and a deeper appreciation for the arts through accessible, high-quality performances and interactive activities across Singapore.
The Programme: Music That Connects Generations
Under the baton of Dedric Wong, ACSO presented a rich and heartwarming repertoire that celebrated Singapore’s cultural diversity and collective identity through music.
Programme Highlights:
-
Hokkien Medley – arr. August Lum
A nostalgic start featuring beloved Hokkien classics that connected generations through melody and memory. -
A Tribute to Teresa Teng – arr. Mark Ang
A touching homage to the legendary 邓丽君, featuring timeless favourites like 甜蜜蜜 and 我只在乎你. -
“Moon” Jazz Medley – arr. Germaine Goh
A smooth, jazzy interlude inspired by the Mid-Autumn Festival, blending Moon River, 月亮代表我的心, and Fly Me to the Moon, highlighted by a lyrical Dizi solo. -
Melodies of the Lion City – by Nathanael Koh
The evening’s most interactive moment, inviting the audience to join in rhythm-making, transforming the performance into a true community orchestra experience.
Community Engagement: Building, Creating, Performing Together
Before the concert began, audiences took part in the Handcrafted Ukulele Fringe Activity, where participants of all ages built and decorated their very own mini instruments. Guided by facilitators, this hands-on workshop brought out creativity and laughter — and even inspired spontaneous performances later in the evening.
During Melodies of the Lion City, audience members were invited to join in, creating a rhythmic accompaniment using their handcrafted instruments and simple percussion provided by ACSO. This participatory element transformed listeners into active contributors, perfectly embodying the ArtsEverywhere@CDC spirit of inclusion and connection.
